Obituary for Carol J. Atwood

Kennebunk - Carol J. Atwood, 89, a resident of Huntington Common in Kennebunk for the last 3 years, and formerly a longtime resident of West Chester, PA, died Tuesday evening, July 28, 2015 at her residence following a period of failing health.

Carol was born July 25, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Frank Bently and Annie Weir Jacoby, and attended college in New York, where she received her degree as a registered nurse from Bellevue Hospital.

She worked as a nurse for several years before starting her family. At that time, Carol focused her time on her family, creating a loving home for her son Tom to grow in. Once he left home for school, she returned to nursing at the West Chester Hospital, taking weekend shifts and covering holiday shifts so other nurses could spend the holiday with their family.

She was an avid reader and loved to knit.

Carol is predeceased by her husband William T. Atwood II, who died in 2007.

Survivors include her son Thompson Atwood and his wife Cindy of Standish, a brother Bob Marsh of Iowa, two sisters Barbara (Barb) Clark of TX and Fran Islin of FL, and a cousin Mary Jacoby.

All services will be private.

Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME 04043.
