Obituary for John Seward Eldridge Jr.

Kennebunkport, Maine

John S. Eldridge, Jr., 89, of Kennebunkport, Maine passed away peacefully on May 14, 2016 in Kennebunk, Maine following an extended illness.

Mr. Eldridge was born in Maine in 1926 to the late John S. Eldridge and Grace B. Eldridge, both of Kennebunkport. He grew up and went to school in Kennebunkport. His parents owned the Maine Stay Guest House and Cottages on Maine Street.

John Eldridge was a US Navy veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 159 of Kennebunkport, Maine. After completion of his naval service, Mr. Eldridge attended, and graduated from, the University of Maine.

He then embarked on a long career in the pulp and paper industry that took him away from Maine. He retired and returned home to Kennebunkport in 1985. He enjoyed his retirement years in his hometown and could often be found pursing his life-long passion at the Cape Arundel Golf Club.

He was predeceased by his daughter Mary Ann Eldridge.

Mr. Eldridge is survived by his wife of more than sixty years Olive, their son John S. Eldridge, III and his wife Brenda, and their two daughters Erin and Kathryn.

Mr. Eldridge will be buried at the Arundel Cemetery in Kennebunkport in a private ceremony.
