Obituary for James Henry Alwin III

James Henry Alwin III
James "Jimi" Henry Alwin III, 61, of Kennebunkport, ME passed away on July 13, 2016 in the comfort of his own home. Jimi, known as Captain Jim or Captain Grampy, to his granddaughters, led a full life of adventure on his own terms. Born in Frankfurt, Germany to James Henry Alwin Jr. and Priscilla Tompkins; summers were spent at the family cottage in Hills Beach, ME. It was no surprise that when he married Holly, they chose to raise their family in his favorite state - the way life should be.

Jimi was an active lobsterman out of Biddeford Pool. His commitment to the life on the water and appreciation of nature extended to include visits to Augusta to advocate for the resource as a member and leader of the Maine Lobstermen's Association. If he wasn't on the water or in the water, Jimi could be found enjoying his musical favorites - Todd & Frank.

Jimi will be forever remembered by wife Holly (Serafino), son, James "Shaymus" Henry Alwin IV and fiancé, Nikki Thommes of Honolulu, HI, daughter, Ramsey Laine Alwin, son-in-law, Jonathan Stivers, and adoring granddaughters, Josephine and Parker Stivers of Washington, DC. Jimi also leaves behind his loving siblings - Julie Rees (PA), Jenny Steadman (FL), Jeffery Alwin (FL), Jacki Griffin (N. Berwick, ME), Joy Miller (York, ME), and Sarah Sutliff (FL).

A celebration of Jimi's life will be held at The Atlantic Hall in Cape Porpoise on Friday, July 22, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Biddeford Pool Fisherman's Association, P.O. Box 245, Biddeford Pool, ME, 04006 or Kennebunk Emergency Medical Services P.O Box 460 B Kennebunkport, Maine 04046 in Jim’s Memory.
