Christa M. Koenig, 91, of Kennebunk, died peacefully on Thursday morning, July 14, 2016 at Bradford Common in Kennebunk. She was born in Germany on December 1, 1924, the daughter of Robert and Hedwig (Wollert) Koenig.

Before moving to the United States, Christa was a school teacher. After moving to the United States, she worked for several years as a photographer. Some of her best work was published in the Christian Science Monitor. She was awarded a very prestigious prize by Germany for a photo she took when she was on vacation there.

Christa was a wonderful translator and worked several years as a translator for the Department for Church, and was also an interpreter when needed for special events both here and abroad.

Christa was a lovely person and sponsored many charities both for people and animals. She was generous and kind and always thinking of others.

She is predeceased by two brothers, Manfred König and Hans-Georg König and a sister, Waltraut König.

Christa is survived by three nieces, Justine König-Miyazaki, Cordula König, and Renate Jentschke, all of Germany, her dear friend, Ferol Austen, of Kennebunk, Maine and many friends here and abroad.

There will be no visiting hours. A private memorial service will be held at sea.
