Obituary for Lynne Mae Steele (Martin)

Lynne Mae Steele (Martin)
KENNEBUNKPORT ME.
Lynne Mae Martin Steele, age 65, passed away on January 8, 2017 after a period of failing health. Lynne courageously lived with Multiple Sclerosis and fought liver failure. She now peacefully rests.
Born to Louville K. Martin and Helen W. Martin on October 23, 1951, Lynne grew up in Chocorua, NH alongside her brother Wayne. She attended Kennett High School in Conway and graduated salutatorian of her class. She studied at the University of New Hampshire where she met James E. Steele II. She and Jim were married in 1974 and started a family in Jim’s hometown of Kennebunkport, Maine with the birth of their daughters Laura Suzanne in 1978 and Kristina Lee in 1980.
Lynne loved socializing and meeting new people, so her career as an occupational therapist in home health care was a perfect fit. From college graduation until her retirement, she enjoyed the opportunity to exchange stories with her patients while she helped them adapt to their medical situation.
At home, Lynne and Jim’s farming roots inspired them to have an assortment of livestock on their property. They often had chickens, dairy cattle, beef cattle, sheep, and working steers. The spring season meant maple sugaring, and summer was haying. Lynne often invited folks to the farm and encouraged them to increase their agricultural knowledge.
Lynne made it a point to travel annually. Most trips were planned around her passion for the sport of harness racing. As a child, Lynne attended races with her parents and brother, including those at the Fryeburg Fair. Throughout her adult years, she visited tracks around the country and abroad, including New Zealand, England, and France. She enjoyed sharing her love of the sport with her family and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents Louville K. Martin, and Helen W. Martin.
Lynne is survived by her husband of 42 years James E. Steele II of Kennebunkport, ME, two daughters Laura S. Steele and her husband Fabien A. Rioult of Garwood, NJ, Kristina S. Vaughan and her husband Lucas A. Vaughan of Newbury, VT, two granddaughters Elizabeth M. Vaughan & Amy J. Vaughan, both of Newbury, VT, and a brother C. Wayne Martin and his wife Peggy, of Campton, NH.
Lynne was a great story teller and prided herself on her ability to accurately recall details of past events and family history. There will be a great void in her absence. Lynne’s family invites you to share your stories with them. Visiting hours will be held 1:00 to 3:00 PM Friday, January 20, 2017 immediately followed by a funeral service at 3:00pm at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St. Kennebunk, Maine. A private burial service will be held later in the spring in New Hampshire.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 6520 N. Andrews Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309 (www.MSFocus.org).
