MANCHESTER, NH --
Gertrude Dumont, 90, of Manchester, N.H., passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at Catholic Medical Center on Monday, January 16, 2017.

Gertrude was born in Lourdes Blanc-Sablon, Quebec, Canada, on October 10, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Pierre and Mathilda (Labadie) Morency. She came to live in the United States, December, 1948 and became a Naturalized Citizen on August 27, 1954. She married Adelard “Gene” Dumont in May of 1954. They were married 56 years until cancer took him away in August, 2010.

Gert was in the workforce for over 40 years retiring at 72. A majority of her work life was in the shoe manufacturing industry as a double needle stitcher. Seven (7) of those years she also helped her husband, Gene, in his Auto Body business.
She was a lifetime member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Post #4485 and was Auxiliary President from 1977-1980. For many years, she was very active in organizing charity events to raise money for Veterans’ programs.
Her favorite pastimes were her flower gardens, canning tomatoes and vegetables and making her famous meat pies.

Gertrude is survived by one son, Gerard “Jerry” Dumont of Somersworth, N.H.; two daughters, Denise (Dumont) Pease of Manchester, N.H., and Jackie (Dumont) Koller of North Waterboro, Maine; two sisters, Anne Beaudoin of St. Johnsbury, VT, and Yvette Joncas of Lourdes Blanc-Sablon, Quebec, Canada;, one granddaughter, Jessica (Dumont) Brown of Shirley, MA; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews in Canada and New England.

Family and friends may visit on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 4-6 p.m. at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street, Berwick, ME. A memorial service celebrating Gertrude’s life will follow immediately at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Deacon Roger Normand. Interment will follow at 2 pm on May 3, 2017 at Evergreen Cemetery in Berwick.
