Michael H. Paine, 72 years, of Wells, died Friday morning, March 24, 2017 at his residence after a long illness. He was born in Montpelier, VT on June 21, 1944, the only child of the late 1st Lt. Harrison Edgar “Buddy” Paine of the U.S. Army Air Forces and Gabrielle (Choquette) Paine. He grew up in Derby Line, VT, and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17. He was stationed in San Antonio, TX; Omaha, NE; England; Colorado Springs, CO; St Albans, VT; Washington DC; Wahiawa, HI; and eventually retired from Pease AFB, NH as a Master Sergeant following a 24-year career.

Following his retirement from active duty, Mike worked in the audio-video business in Portsmouth, NH. In earlier years, he enjoyed playing golf. For 10 years Mike and his wife enjoyed hosting exchange students from Slovakia, Belgium, Hungary, Sweden and Russia.

In addition to his parents, Mike is predeceased by a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Tetreault, and a brother-in-law Real Lussier.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nicole (Lussier) Paine of Wells; a son Kevin Paine and wife Bridget of Fremont, NH; two grandchildren, Gabrielle and Carter Paine; three brothers-in-law, Jacques Lussier and wife Marcelle, Michel Lussier both from St Albans, VT; Albert Tetreault from Fairfield, VT; three sisters-in-law, Estelle Quintin and husband John of North Hero, VT; Micheline Goodno and husband Earle of Candia, NH; Claire Rainville and husband Roger of Alburg, VT; several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial, followed by military honors, will be celebrated on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells. Burial on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Edwards Cemetery, Derby Line, VT. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in honor of Michael Paine may be made to York Hospital, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909, Attention: Friendraising Office c/o Hilary Leonhard.
