Obituary for Marie Eugenia Bennett (Carrigan)

Marie Eugenia Bennett, 88, of Kennebunkport, passed away Saturday morning, April 1, 2017 at her home surrounded by her children. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 21,1928, the daughter of Percy and Clara Carrigan. A graduate of Portland High School class of 1946 she continued her education at St.Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine.
On May 11,1953, she married Charles J. Bennett Jr. in Portland, Maine. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage together until his death in 2003.
With the love and support of her single mother, Marie had careers as a lab technician, sales and many years as a real estate broker. Her greatest joy was being a mom and homemaker; creating a welcoming place for her nine children and their families. Her artistic flair was displayed in her love of gardening, dancing, fashion and style. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling to Santa Barbara, California and other destinations around the world.
Marie is survived by her six sons, three daughters and sixteen grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. A memorial service will be Friday, April 7,2017 at 11:00 am at Bibber Memorial Chapel.
In Lieu of flowers, friends who wish to remember Marie may do so with a contribution to the Franciscan Monastery Capital Campaign, PO Box 273, Kennebunk, ME 04043 in honor of Marie Bennett.
