Obituary for Dorothy Louise Pillsbury (Watson)

Kennebunk

Dorothy Louise Pillsbury, 96, of Kennebunk, died April 16, 2017 in Kennebunk following a period of failing health.

Dorothy was born in Kennebunk September 8, 1920, a daughter of Willis E. Watson and Florence Cook Watson. She is a graduate of Kennebunk High School, class of 1938.

She was employed as a book keeper in town prior to her marriage to Everett Pillsbury, and together they travelled extensively throughout the country and in Europe including Paris, when he was stationed as an officer in the United States Airforce.
Returning to Kennebunk to continue raising their family, she worked briefly as a lunch lady at the Cousens School. She was a longtime, very active member of Christ Church, where she served as clerk of the Church. She was well known for making crafts to sell at the Summer and Winter fairs to benefit the church.

Dorothy also enjoyed reading, painting, sewing and cooking, combing the beach for seaglass and shells, birdwatching and tending her gardens.

She was predeceased by her beloved brothers Arnold, Hubert and David, and her beloved sister Marian Watson Truman.

Survivors include her daughters, Susan Pillsbury of Brookline, MA and Joan Archer of Great Pond, ME, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11 AM Thursday, June 1 at Christ Church, Dane Street, Kennebunk, with Reverend James Anderson officiating.

Interment will be in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.
