Donald H. Hopkins, Obituary

SOMERSWORTH - Donald H. Hopkins, 83, of 370 High Street, passed away on May 26, 2017, in the home in which he was born & raised.

Born on April 9, 1934, he was the son of Robert "Harry" and Edith M. (Blaisdell) Hopkins. Don graduated from Somersworth High School in 1952. One of his first jobs was with Maloney Sheet Metal in Berwick. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958, working on target ranges out of Fort Bliss, TX.

On his return, he went to work for Dumais Brothers. Shortly thereafter, he started the job of his life working as a plumber beside his brother, Ed, in E. E. Hopkins, Plumbing & Heating in Somersworth.

Don worked in the family gardens over the years, & continued that past-time throughout his life, including growing hundreds of plants yearly for his brother, Albert (Hoppy's Farm Stand in Berwick, ME).

Don's entire life was centered on his family. He is survived by one brother, Richard F. Hopkins, of Kennebunk, ME, & several nieces & nephews. Don was cared for by his niece, Leigh K. Conway & a close friend of the family, Lisa Platt.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers; Harold, Albert H., Robert H, & Edward E. Hopkins, and three sisters, Grace E. Matthews, Eva M. Gosselin, & Muriel M. Hopkins.

Visiting hours will be held at Laing Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street, Berwick, ME, on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 10am to 12pm. A funeral service will follow beginning at 12pm at Laing Bibber Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jim Vreeland, of Faith Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Glade Cemetery.
