Margaret J. Ender, 91 years, of Kennebunk, died on August 20, 2017. She was a native of Schenectady, NY. Mrs. Ender was a graduate of St. Agnes School, Albany, NY and Bennington College in Bennington, VT where she received a B.A. degree in Art in 1948. She also studied at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

An active artist, Mrs. Ender’s work was initially in sculpture. After moving to Wellesley Hills, MA, in 1973 she became increasingly interested in transparent watercolor. She enjoyed painting landscapes, florals, still lifes, and abstracts. She studied with many nationally known artists, including Maxine Masterfield, David Millard, Carl Schmalz, and George Shedd. She exhibited watercolors in many shows in New England and Maine and won numerous awards for her work. She was named a Copley Artist of the Copley Society of Boston and a Distinguished Artist of Concord (Massachusetts) Art Association. She was a member of the Wellesley Society of Artists, the Art Guild of the Kennebunks, and Maine Women in the Arts. Mrs. Ender was also a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Kennebunk and the Junior League of Portland, ME.

In recent years Margaret was supported by the loving and sustaining care of St. Andre Health Care in Biddeford, ME. She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Robert C. Ender, and is survived by her son, David K. Ender of New York City and five nephews. She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. William Mallia of Schenectady, NY and Kennebunkport, ME.

There are no visiting hours. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. David’s Episcopal Church, 138 York Street (U.S. Route One), Kennebunk, with Rev. Andrew D’Angio White officiating. Burial will be private.
