Obituary for Barbara King Hennessy

Barbara K. Hennessy, 81 of Kennebunk, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at her residence.

She was born on November 26, 1935 in Boston, MA, a daughter of John and Margaret King.

She graduated from Newton College of The Sacred Heart in 1957.

Barbara loved the beach, gardening, time spent with family, knitting, and devoting her time to St. Martha’s Church.

She is predeceased by her husband, William “Bill” J. and their son, William “Jay” J. Jr..

She is survived by her brother, John King, Jr. 92, of Brunswick, ME; her sister, M. Patricia Hines, 94, of Meredith, NH; her daughter, Michelle H. Daigle and her husband Steven of Lyman, ME; her son, Sean L. and his wife, Darcy Hatfield Kent of Sanford; four grandchildren, Ben Daigle and his wife, Hilary of Lyman, Ryan Daigle and his wife Jolene of Lyman, Mackenzie J. Hennessy of Sanford, and Madeline A. Hennessy of South Carolina; and two great grandchildren, Noah R. Daigle and Rylee Rae Daigle, and was looking forward to welcoming her third great grandchild in November.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Martha’s Church on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 11 AM with a bereavement reception to be held immediately following.

Should friends desire, donations may be made in her name to the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Martha’s Church, 30 Portland Road, Kennebunk, ME 04043.

Interment in the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery will follow in the afternoon.
