Obituary for William Arnold "Bill" Shorey Sr.

Kennebunkport, ME

William ‘Bill’ Arnold Shorey, Sr., 80 years, of Kennebunkport died September 28, 2017 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born August 15, 1937 in Hollis, ME a son of Carlton and Ruby (Whitten) Shorey, Sr. He attended Dayton schools and was a logger in Southern Maine for many years. Bill was handy and also did many odd jobs for people. He was always willing to help and would say yes to anyone’s requests. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for four years. Forty six years ago, Bill married Jean Howard.

Bill enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He liked fly fishing and camping and always looked forward every autumn to deer hunting in Rangeley with his sons and friends. Bill was also an avid cribbage player and he and Jean played every night. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Bill was predeceased by his son, Timothy Shorey; his daughter, Margaret Shorey; his brothers, Warren Shorey and Carlton Shorey, Jr.; and his sister, Ruth Travers.

Bill is remembered by his wife, Jean; his sons, William A. Shorey, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Kennebunk, Robert ‘Bob’ Kinney of North Berwick, John Kinney and his wife, Susan, of Kennebunk and Brian Shorey and his wife, Beth, of Saco; his daughters, Erica Brown of Newfield and Josephine Hunt and her husband, Jack, of Kennebunkport; his brother, Raymond ‘Major’ Shorey of Oquossoc, ME; his sister, Linda Tilton of Westbrook; sixteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will be celebrated at 3 pm on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME with Rev. Burton Howe.
