Mary Jane (Ohnemus) Butcher was born in Boston on March 14, 1933, and passed away on September 10, 2017. She was the daughter of Richard and Gertrude Ohnemus of Watertown, Massachusetts. A Waltham, Massachusetts native, Mary Jane (MJ) was the loving wife of Elvin E. Butcher.
Mary Jane was a medical secretary for Dr. Joseph Riley of Waltham, Massachusetts. After many years of employment in Dr. Riley’s family medical practice, she retired to enjoy the seaside life in the Kennebunks, and was often found walking the beaches and exploring the shops at the Port. She had many passions and personal interests including reading, rug hooking and home crafts which she shared with family and friends.
MJ leaves behind her son Stephen A. Butcher and his wife Lois; her daughter Kathryn E. (Butcher) Darrah and her husband William; her son E. Rodney Butcher and his wife Denise; her son M. Jonathan Butcher and his wife Paula; her four grandsons and two granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren. Mary Jane’s brothers, Robert and Richard, and her sisters, Gertrude and Kathryn, all predeceased her.
Cremation arrangements were provided by Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk, Maine. Her family gathered to celebrate her life and honor her memory.
