Ruth Shirley Phimister, 103 years young, died peacefully on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at her residence. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 2, 1914, the eldest of four children. Ruth and sisters Helen and Audrey were born to Charles Tillotson Stein and Anna Katherine (Miller) Stein. Following Anna’s death, Charles married Etta Treharne, and their daughter Charletta completed the family. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching, and Master’s Degree in School Administration, both from Albany State College. She taught in Westchester area schools for over 25 years. Having vacationed in Maine for several summers, Ruth and her husband retired here. In her free time she enjoyed reading, painting, and knitting. In earlier years, she and sister Helen would perform on violin and cello. Ruth was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Congregational Church of Wells.
She was the widow of William Phimister, and is also predeceased by her sisters Helen, Audrey and Charletta.
Survivors include her daughters, Ruth Ann Phimister, Elizabeth Ellen Smith, and Evelyn Jean Phimister.
