Casper Albert Bridges, 88 years, a lifelong resident of Wells, Maine passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of Thursday, December 28, 2017.

He was born March 10, 1929, “The last of the legacy” as the youngest of Burleigh A. and Etta (Miller) Bridges’ twenty-one children. He grew up “digging clams” alongside his family on “Clamshell Alley” in Wells.

Casper served his country as a heavy equipment operator with the United States Army from 1953-1955 and then 8 years in the Reserves.

“Cap” also served his community in several capacities for many years, starting in 1946 when he became a member of the Wells Corner Hose Co.; culminating with his tenure as Fire Chief there from 1963-71. He was appointed Road Foreman/Commissioner of the Wells Highway Department in 1969 and served in that role until his retirement in 1991. He was also a local handyman for many different people around Wells for many years.

He married the love of his life, Marie Wildes, of Kennebunkport, on November 22, 1957. In 1960 they moved into their home on Drakes Island Road where they raised their children, and resided for the remainder of their lives.

Upon his retirement, Cap enjoyed most of all his trips up t’ camp at his beloved Moosehead Lake, hunting, puttering or just relaxing, listening to his country and western music. Many memories were made at “Popie’s Camp” in Greenville.

He was predeceased by his wife in 2015, and his sons-in-law William Timberman II and Brian Boudreau, as well as his 20 other siblings.

“Popie”, as he was affectionately known by his extended family, is survived by his children, Richard Libby, Laurie Boudreau, Sherry Timberman, Ron Bridges, and James Bridges; his grandchildren, Tracy, Gary, Jeffrey, Crystal, Mandy, Jessica, Jennifer, Ashley, Angela, Marci, and Shauna; great grandchildren, Timothy, Roseanna, Faye, Tucker, Cody, Ethan, and Cassandra; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews and his little dog Daisy.

Visiting hours will be held 3 to 5 PM Friday, January 5, 2018 from Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, ME, where a Funeral Service will be held10 AM Saturday, January 6, 2018 with Rev. Charity Omartian officiating. Spring interment will be held at Ocean View Cemetery in Wells.
