Our Summer St. Neighbor

As relatively new Summer St. residents, we only knew Mark for a few years. But we shared his love of nature, especially the Conservation Trust property which is beautiful in every season. A meadow surrounded by a scrim of evergreen, it often reminds us of Yosemite during those gorgeous summer days when the sky is a cloudless cerulean blue and the sun glints off the grasses and wildflowers. Bear's daily walks to town to get coffee reminded us to use our feet instead of a car to handle errands. As a native Floridian, I found that his example kept me from complaining about frigid temperatures or less than ideal weather. We tried to smile and say hi whenever we saw him, but he seemed happier simply following his quiet routine as he passed our house twice a day. I do like to think that all the activity of our home renovation kept him entertained for a while. We will miss him and are grateful to his family for sharing their beautiful undeveloped property with us every day.
