Obituary for John Lewis Bowles

John Lewis Bowles
Dateline – New Hampshire

John Lewis Bowles, 55, son of Keith and Cynthia Bowles of Berwick, ME, left this world to join his father on March 20th, 2018. He passed away after a long battle with Leukemia having family and friends surrounding him.

John enjoyed his life with his family. He married his soul mate, Rachel (Hilton), in the 90s and happily gained a step son, Richard Hilton, whom he loved and shared many memorable experiences. He and his family resided in New Durham until moving to Alton, NH in recent years.

Though his life was cut short, his journey was not one without a silver lining. During his illness, as fate would have it, John was fortunate enough to discover his biological family whom had searched for him in previous years without success. He embraced the opportunity in getting to know his biological family and cherished what short time he had.

John worked as a Collision Technician for various local garages, most recently Gagnon’s Auto Body in Somersworth, NH, having many friends and connections within his trade in the local area. He will be remembered as a man that brought people together, particularly with his silly, fun-loving, humor and warm heart; a man not easily forgotten. People tended to gravitate to John as he had a way of lightening the mood no matter the situation.

He enjoyed being around friends and family, vacationing in Maine, and cherished his childhood memories of vacations on Square Pond. He had hoped to have at least one more vacation in Maine with his family, an area that meant so much to him. True to his nature, he maintained his humor throughout his illness.

John was pre-deceased by his best friend and loving father, Keith Bowles. He is survived by his loving mother, Cynthia (McComb) of Durham, NH, loving wife Rachel (Hilton) of Alton, NH, step-son Richard Hilton and wife Brianna (Pearson); his step-grandchildren, Embry, Cohen, and Cali of Alton, NH. In addition, he leaves behind his sister, Susan (Bowles) and husband Donald Seymour of West Newfield, ME, his newly found family Alice (Wentzel) Hunt of Auburn, ME, Ron Hunt of Wasilla, Alaska, Wanda Hunt of Manchester, NH, Bradley Hunt of Livermore Falls, ME, Phillip Hunt of Mechanic Falls, ME, Stanley Hunt of Pittsfield, ME, and his close friends, in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

John’s family would like to extend special thanks to the volunteers, staff, nurses and doctors of Dartmouth Hitchcock One West, Norris Cotton Cancer Center, Huggins Hospital as well as Central New Hampshire VNA & Hospice.

There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 31st, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at The Berwick United Methodist Church, 37 School Street, Berwick. Interment at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick.
