Obituary for Robert Wayne Matthews
Dover, NH
Robert Wayne “Bob” Matthews aged 71, formerly of Somersworth, NH, died Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in Dover after a brief illness.
Robert was born in Rochester, NH on December 13, 1946. He was the son of Norman George and Grace Emma (Hopkins) Matthews. Robert graduated from Somersworth High School and served with the US Navy aboard the USS Saratoga.
Robert was retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he worked as a Supply Purchaser for many years.
He was a big fan of the Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots. He loved music with his favorite being rock and roll. He volunteered as a Pease Greeter at the Pease Tradeport welcoming home troops returning from overseas.
Robert was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Beverly Matthews.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara J. Matthews of York, ME and his nephew, Matthew Doyle of Greenland, NH along with several cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff members of Wadleigh House and Riverside Rest Home in Dover for all their support and care through Robert's illness.
There will be a private graveside service with Military Honors at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Route 3, Boscawen, NH.
