Obituary for John Luco Castelvetro Sr.

John Luco  Castelvetro Sr.
John Luco Castelvetro, Sr., 68 years, a resident of Wells, died Monday, April 16, 2018 in New Haven, CT after a brief illness.

John was born in New Haven, CT on November 27, 1949, a son of the late John and Rachel (Alfieri) Castelvetro. He grew up in New Haven and graduated from James Hillhouse High School. Following graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S Oriskany Aircraft Carrier CVA-34 during the Vietnam era.

During his high school years, John worked at IHOP. After the service, he worked at Mossberg where he made gun barrels for several years, as well as tending bar periodically. He then started his long career with the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2010 from the Kennebunk Post Office.

John was a member of the New Haven Elks Club. He enjoyed all sports, playing softball on a local team, “Columbia Mattress” watching baseball and football. He greatly enjoyed following the UCONN Women’s Basketball team. He enjoyed meeting people and making new friends everywhere he went. John also loved cooking, trying new recipes and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed cook outs with family friends and volunteering at the Wells Recreational Center while his kids attended Summer Camp there for several years.


He was predeceased by his wife Candace B. (Bitzer) Castelvetro in 2010 and by a sister, Michelina Castelvetro.

Survivors include his children, John Castelvetro of Wells and Claire Castelvetro and her significant other Dylan Court of Wells; a brother Ludwig Castelvetro of Columbia; a sister Marie Lowenadler of New Haven, CT; nieces Kelli Lowenadler, and Kristen Beers and a nephew, Kevin Lowenadler, of New Haven, CT; great nieces Amber Lowenadler and Rachel Beers and great nephews, Bryan and Tyler Lowenadler, Daniel Beers, Christopher Lowenadler and his significant other Sabrina Lowenadler, all of New Haven, CT.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3PM on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells.
