Condolences

Condolence From: Jean M. DeDoming
Condolence: Our close friend John exemplified the very best of humankind. A special person in every way, always friendly and upbeat. John was husband to my best childhood friend, Nancy. I was so happy when they found each other. When I spent time at Kennebunk Pond with my three growing girls, John was always there to talk and play with them (in the absence of a father) and today they still speak fondly of him (as a Dad surrogate) and those memories. One night, while Nancy and I visited next door, he went over to the cottage and played his harmonica for them! John will be missed as a great man by so many people, but we will have the fondest of memories of a very special human being.

Condolence: My condolences to Nancy and your family. Family was everything to John. Forty odd years ago he hired me as his secretary at was then Cummings James. I may not have stayed in Maine if not for that job offer. I will always be grateful to you both for letting me stay at your house that long ago summer when you were at the pond. I still have a footstool he made me with my initials carved into it - my nieces, nephews and now grands and great grands have sat and stood on it. He was an honorable and decent man and I am so very sorry to learn of his passing

Condolence: deepest condolences to john's family and friends on his passing. i knew john from childhood, probably age 4, when son jim attended mom's preschool. spent many hours at the park street home in my elementary years, and then at john'woodside drive and kennebunk pond homes. delivered his paper at his fletcher street offices for years too, where though it was about 6 AM, he often greeted me with a smile, and thank you, as aromas of his warm, first cup of the day coffee wafted through the door. john was a kennebunk pillar, as his obituary attests. i did not know the true depth of his commitment to town, region, and state until reading them here, but i knew most of it, evident in almost every talk i had with him. he was a quiet leader, benefactor, wise man. he loved us all, that was clear. if you've seen 'field of dreams',burt lancaster played doc 'moonlight' graham, a small town doctor who silently did all he could for his town. that was john cummings. looking forward to seeing his friends and family at his services. glad he went so peacefully, so fitting for having led such a good life. kudos to son jim, my classmate, for being home for his folks during john's trials. this was a great blessing which i am sure john appreciated immensely.

Condolence: I recall fondly when I went on an international Rotary trip to help with Polio eradication efforts he gave a generous personal contribution to help defray personal expenses. He was a very thoughtful man, selfless.

He also sent in a check, to the Kennebunk Rotary, just in the last several weeks to make a contribution to the Kennebunk Rotary Chix BBQ fundraiser and wonderfully thoughtful gesture, especially with present end of life struggle.
