Obituary for Helen Marie Olcott (O'Brien)

Helen Marie (“Hawee”) Olcott, 96, of Sentry Hill, York, Maine, died peacefully Thursday, January 1st after a brief period of failing health.
Hawee was born to Michael S and Helen M Obrien in Lawrence, Massachusetts on June 11th, 1918. She graduated from Abbott Academy in Andover MA in 1936 and Smith College in North Hampton, MA with a degree in French in 1940. After college Hawee studied at Katherine Gibbs in Boston and worked at Phillips Academy Art Gallery in Andover, MA. She was a devoted mother and homemaker, a champion golfer, and loved to sail, cook and garden.
Hawee was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Gage, in 2005 and is survived by her sons, Michael, Charles and Gage; her daughter, Elizabeth Towne; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staffs of York Hospital, and Sentry Hill in York, ME and especially Durgin Pines Rehabilitation Center in Kittery, ME for their outstanding care during Hawee’s illness.
Private funeral services at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Mass. will be at the discretion of the family.
