Obituary for Wesley Carl Johnson

Wesley C. Johnson, 91 of Willimantic, CT, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on July 8, 2016 at his favorite place, his beach home in Wells Beach, Maine. He was born in Putnam, CT on April 12, 1925 to the late William and Arline Johnson. He graduated from Putnam High School in 1942 and then served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation radioman.
After serving in the Navy, Wes worked as a telephone repairman for Southern New England Telephone Company for 34 years. It was there that he met the love of his life Doris Noheimer.
Wes was involved in many community activities. As a young father he was a Scout Master for Troop 32. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, where he served as a Trustee and Deacon. He enjoyed his time being involved for many years at the Card Home for the Aged as both President and a member of the Board of Directors. Wes was also a life member of the Putnam Elks Lodge.
Besides his wife of 61 years, Wes leaves behind his son Michael Johnson and wife Deborah, daughter Nancy Brennan and husband James, son David Johnson and wife Kathleen. He also leaves his grandchildren, whom he adored, Kelcey Johnson and fiancé Justin Martin, James Brennan and wife Morgan, Tyler Johnson, Michael Brennan, Patrick Brennan, Conor Johnson and Brenden Johnson, as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A celebration of Wes’ life will be held on Sunday, July 17th at 1:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 199 Valley Street, Willimantic. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Congregational Church, 199 Valley Street, Willimantic, CT 06226 or to The Card Home, 154 Pleasant Street, Willimantic, CT 06226.
