Madeline Sargent, 99 years, of Lower Village, died May 28 2017 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House surrounded by her loving family.

Madeline was born at home June 27, 1917 in Kennebunk Lower Village, a daughter of Fred and Catherine (Harrington) Towne. She graduated from Kennebunk High School with high honors. Madeline married Frank W. Sargent in 1940 and raised three children. Tragically, Frank died at a young age and Madeline worked several jobs to support her young family. She worked many years at Kesslen Shoe and retired from Sprague Electric.

Madeline enjoyed traveling, baking, quilting and birdwatching. Always placing her family first, she loved family time, barbeques and holidays.

In addition to her husband, Frank, Madeline was predeceased by her daughter, Betty Gendron; her sons, David and Peter Sargent; her brothers, William, Fred and Hugh Towne; and her sisters, Catherine Hanson and Bessie Cashen.

Madeline is lovingly remembered by her son in law, Donald Gendron; her daughter in law, Susan Sargent; her sister, Helen Mullins; her five grandchildren, Teresa Gamache and her husband, Phil, Sandra Gendron and her partner, Ken Ladd, Stephanie Dillon, Angela Gendron and partner, Blaine White, and Jennifer Giardino and her husband, Roger; her five great grandchildren, Chelsea Burnell, Meghan Emerson, Sofia Dillon, Lucas Giardino and Liam Dillon; and many nieces and nephews.

Madeline’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and special thanks to Hospice, and her wonderful in-home care givers.

There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be held for Madeline at 11 am on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Holy Spirit Parish - St. Martha’s Church, 30 Portland Road, Kennebunk. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Summer Street, Kennebunk.
