Obituary for Steven Gregory Rahl

Steven G. Rahl, 63, of Kennebunk, Maine, passed away at Maine Medical Center on February 27, 2018 of pancreatic cancer, surrounded in the love of family and friends. He leaves his beloved wife, Bernice (Brown) Rahl, his son, David and wife, Jess Rahl, of Glenn Dale, MD, his daughter, Sarah Rahl of Austin, TX, brother, Scott and wife, Dale Rahl, of Westerly, RI, sister-in-law, Joanne Rahl of Colchester, CT, parents-in-law, Dave and Irmgard Brown of Wolfeboro, NH, 5 nieces and nephews, and 9 grandnieces and nephews. Steven is predeceased by his younger brother, Donald Rahl.

Born in Providence, RI on November 22, 1954 to the late Herbert and Jean (McGrillies) Rahl, Steven earned a B.S. degree from the University of RI in 1976 where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity, an MBA from Bryant University in 1981, and a CPCU designation in 2003. Steve and his wife, Bernice, met in 1975 and were married on May 2, 1982. For his entire career, Steve worked in the insurance industry; starting at Metropolitan in RI, then Maine Bonding in Portland, American General and Zurich in Baltimore, and finally as the senior marketing representative for Vermont Mutual in Maine. Always a true gentleman, Steve’s reputation for professional integrity, honesty and sincere kindness made him countless friends throughout the years. He had the rare talent for listening with genuine attention; quick with a laugh and generous to all. Steve enjoyed playing golf, spending time at the beach, or watching a game with friends, but family was his greatest joy; Steve was so proud of his children, and a constant source of love and support for them. Strong in his faith, Steve traveled through life with his best friend, Bernice, at his side, and was looking forward to more fun together in retirement.

All are invited to a memorial service at 11 am on March 10, 2018 at West Kennebunk United Methodist Church, 160 Alfred Rd, Kennebunk, with a reception to follow. Please bring remembrances to share, either spoken or in writing. If so desired, donations to WKUMC, P.O. Box 532, West Kennebunk, ME 04094 in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
