Obituary for Karen Ann Paro (Shuffleburg)

Karen Ann Paro (Shuffleburg)
KENNEBUNK
Karen Ann Paro, 60, a lifelong resident of Kennebunk died Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford following a brief illness with her family at her side.

She was born in Biddeford October 7, 1957, the daughter of Harold E. and Maxine Hutchins Shuffleburg, and is a graduate of Kennebunk High School, class of 1975.

For many years, she operated Farm Girl cleaners serving many businesses and homes in the Kennebunks. Most recently, she was employed by Hannaford Supermarket in its maintenance department.

Karen was known for her green thumb, and loved to tend her vegetable and flower gardens, and it was usually this time of year that her seedlings would be planted, and often they would share space in the family shower as they grew towards spring. She was a regular visitor to many local farmers markets, often selling her tote bags she made from recycled grain bags, calling her company Green Bags for You. Active in making handcrafts, she leaves behind many a project that is incomplete, but was known for her beautiful work on the projects she did complete.

She is predeceased by her father Harold, a brother Timothy, and a great grandson Aiden Spillane, who died this past October.

Survivors include her mother Maxine Shuffleburg, her husband Joseph Paro, children Anthony Paro and his wife Flo, all of Kennebunk, Lucien (Lacy) Caswell and husband Ryan of Boston, and Kerry Simes of Biddeford, a sister Beverly Raymond and her husband Dean of Kennebunk, grandson Daniel Spillane and his fiancé Emily Valley of Arundel, and granddaughter Lillian Paro of Kennebunk.

Visiting hours will be held 6-8 PM Monday March 19, 2018 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, a funeral service will be held 11 AM Tuesday at the Chapel.

The family encourages memorial donations to the Animal Welfare Society, PO Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094.
