Bessie M. Hubbard, 89, of Wells, died Saturday afternoon, April 7, 2018 at York Hospital following a period of declining health. She was born in York on December 27, 1928, a daughter of Bertie F. and Marion (Shaw) Bridges. She was educated in Wells, grew up and lived in the same family property her entire life. She was the widow of Wallace M. Hubbard, who predeceased her in 1973.

Bessie worked as a chambermaid for several years at The Dunes in Ogunquit, and the Elmwood Resort in Wells. She was an avid wrestling fan, and enjoyed watching baseball, especially her beloved Boston Red Sox. Bessie loved NASCAR, cheering on her favorite driver, Matt Kenseth. A talented seamstress, she made several afghan blankets for her family. Bessie was hardworking, loving, and always willing to do anything for her family.

In addition to her husband Wallace, she is predeceased by her daughter, Bessie Hilton; her sister, Mabel Card; her brother, Elmer Bridges; and a half-brother, Louis Staples.

Bessie is survived by her son, Albert Hubbard and wife Gail of Wells; seven grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.

A period of visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, followed by burial at 1:30 p.m. in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.
