Dateline – Wells
Nancy Greer Jozefowicz, 95 years young, of Kennebunk, formerly of Wells, died Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Huntington Common.

Nancy, daughter of William and Annie Stirling Greer, was born in Lawrence, MA, but moved to Maine at the age of 5 when her parents bought a bakery in Sanford.

She was educated in Sanford schools and earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Nasson College.

Nancy taught Business Education in Bridgton, ME and Newport, NH, where she met her husband, John. The couple moved to Weymouth, MA where they purchased a home and business. After a few years, they moved back to Maine, and Nancy worked for the Superior and Supreme Judicial Courts in Alfred.

Nancy re-entered teaching at both Alma Maters – Sanford High and Nasson College - after graduate work at the Universities of Maine and New Hampshire. She and John moved to Wells in 1974 after she retired from 28 years of teaching.

Nancy volunteered for the start of Laudholm Farm and was one of the Founders. She also helped with the mailings for the Senior Center at Lower Village, the Brick Store Museum, and the Wells-Ogunquit Senior Center.


Nancy was philanthropic as well as community minded and served on the Scholarship Committees of the Ogunquit Women’s Club, the York County Retired Teachers’ Association, York Hospital, and the Maine State Teachers. She also served on the Board of Directors of Ocean View Cemetery for twenty years and volunteered at the Wells Urgent Care Facility for three years.

She was a member of the Wells Congregational Church, the Wells-Ogunquit Historical Society, the Friends of the Wells Library, the Brick Store Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Animal Welfare Society, and the Senior Center at Lower Village.

Her hobbies were interior decoration, designing and making clothing, crafts, painting, golf, and reading. Nancy traveled extensively to Scotland, Ireland, Europe, and the Caribbean Islands, then went west to Hawaii and the Canadian Rockies.

Nancy’s husband, John, three brothers, Arthur, William, and Dr. John Greer, and her sister Martha predeceased her. She leaves 3 nieces and 7 nephews.

There are no visiting hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Congregational Church of Wells, 1695 Post Road, Wells. Burial will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to the Animal Welfare Society, P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094.
