Obituary for Virginia C. Barrett

KENNEBUNK
Virginia C. Barrett, 90, a resident of Cole Road, died peacefully on July 1, 2018 in Kennebunk following a period of failing health.

Virginia was born October 5, 1927 in Boston, MA, the daughter of Edwin C. and Ethel H. Axberg Day, and is a graduate of Braintree High School and the former Mt. Ida College in Newton Center, MA.

She was a hard worker, caring for her family and making a loving home for her children to come home to and to support her growing family. In 1979 she moved to Lovell, Maine where she and her husband, John E. Barrett, purchased Kezar Lake Camping Area and ran it until they retired in 1987.

Moving to Kennebunk after the sale of their campground, Virginia became a member of the Saco Congregational Church, and loved spending time with her family, enjoying bird watching and raising flowers in her gardens, doing crafts including painting and sewing, and playing the piano. She loved animals and spent her later years adopting numerous pets, such as her basset hound “Annie,” and her rabbit “Thumper,” from the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk.

Virginia is predeceased by her husband John E. Barrett in 2007 and a son, Kenneth Barrett.

She is survived by three sons, Daniel Barrett of Georgia, Christopher Barrett of Boston, MA, and Kevin Barrett of York, ME, and three daughters, Lydie Kennedy of Georgia, Rebecca Tengwall of Oregon, and Melissa Hall of Kennebunk, as well as 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
