She graduated from Deering High School in 1938 and then went to Farmington Normal School where she majored in Home Economics education and graduated with a teaching degree in 1942. After the war Agnes came back to Maine and married her husband James E. Steele in 1946. Together they lived in Durham NH and Bath New York before moving, in 1950, back to Kennebunkport onto Agnes’ grandparent’s farm on Goose Rocks Road, where they lived for 70 happy hard working years giving of their time and energy to all.

Agnes was a life time member of the South Congregational Church, a member of the Goose Rocks Beach Women’s fire auxiliary during the 1950s, a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She also worked with the Mother’s Club and loved to play Bridge.

Agnes is survived by her five children: Anne Steele, Theodore Steele and wife Elizabeth, James E. Steele II, Carol Steele and Helen (Steele) Sherman and husband James plus 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; her brother, Ralph L. Smith, Jr.
