Althea Ann Powers, 74, a resident of Kennebunk, Maine, died on Tuesday August 7, 2018 at Huntington Common after a nine year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Althea was born on October 20, 1943 in Glen Cove, Long Island, New York. She was the daughter of Frank Thomas Powers, Jr., and Elaine Eldredge Powers. She spent most of her childhood in Long Island and attended formal education in Gustaad Switzerland and The Chapin School in Manhattan, New York. She summered every year of her life in Prouts Neck, Maine, which was one of her favorite places on earth. As an adult she was a long time resident of Palm Beach, Florida and Kennebunkport, Maine. Her bright smile, warm compassionate heart and generous spirit were contagious and she made the world a better place through her generous spirit and life-long giving.

Althea served on the National Advisory Board and the Executive Committee of the Adam Walsh Childrens Fund and the Board of Directors of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. She was recognized as a leader by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and played a key role in the search for a building for the Adam Walsh Children’s Fund. She was instrumental in securing the building through her generous financial donation and the largest board room in the facility is named the Elaine E. and Frank T. Powers Board Room. In addition to her support of these organizations, Althea’s charity work was felt across various other charities including Comprehensive Alcoholism Rehabilitation Programs, Inc., The American Red Cross, Association for Retarded Citizens, and the Children’s Place in Palm Beach county for abused children and HIV infected babies as well as many other charities large and small.

Her personal love of animals poured over into her charity efforts. She loved all animals, especially her cats Samantha and Ari and her beloved dog Harley. She put this love into her giving as a board member of the Palm Beach Zoo where she sponsored an endangered Florida Panther named Colin Patrick. Althea also was a board member of the Shambala Preserve in California, run by actress Tippi Hendren which works to protect endangered big cats including Bengal Tigers and African Lions among others. Due to her extraordinary charity efforts she was invited to the Vatican where she had a private meeting with Pope John Paul II in Rome.

Althea is predeceased by her son Graham James Warren of Locust Valley, New York. She is survived by her daughter Andrea Gibb Moseley and wife Melissa Boyd of Arundel, Maine; her son Kenneth Francis Warren II of Glen Cove, New York; her daughter-in-law Tammy Warren of Levittown, New York; her grandchildren Taylor Olivia Warren, Logan Grace Warren and Keegan Thomas Warren all of Long Island, New York; her brother Tom Powers and wife Sally of Edgecomb, Maine; and her sister Marjorie “Babs” Ade and her husband Bill of Vero Beach, Florida; several nephews and numerous cousins and extended family.

The family would like to send their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Huntington Common for their ongoing love, support, and phenomenal care of Althea over the nine years she lived there.

Visiting hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, Maine and a private burial to follow in Locust Valley, Long Island, New York at a later date.
