Edward Upton Meyer, 94, of Wells, died Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Avita of Wells. He was born in Yonkers, NY on September 23, 1923, the son of John and Clara (Upton) Meyer. He grew up in New York, and summered each year with his family in York Beach.
At the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the Navy, proudly serving aboard USS Petrof Bay (CVE-80) and USS Cushing (DD-376), both operating in the Pacific area. Following his discharge from active duty in 1946, he worked in several different endeavors, including owning and operating his own commercial refrigeration company and, in later years, working as a handyman at a furniture store.
Edward loved to travel, and earned his private pilot’s license.
He is predeceased by his parents; his loving wife Jane; his daughter, Kerry Meyer.
Survivors include two sons, Gregg Meyer and wife Wendy of Conroe, TX, Gary Meyer and wife Alice of Corinth, TX; two grandchildren, Jeff and Jill Meyer; five great grandchildren.
At Edward’s request, services are private. Should friends choose, memorial donations in his name are encouraged to the charity of one’s choice.
