Obituary for Marjorie Jane Richardson (Foster)

Marjorie Jane Foster Richardson died peacefully on August 27, 2018, surrounded by her family. A resident of Huntington Common, she had been in hospice care since June.
Marjorie was born on February 6, 1929 to Lucy Hilda Beatty and Donald Jordan Foster of Raymond, ME. An only child, she grew up surrounded by her extended family, and starting at a young age worked alongside her mother and grandmother in their family business, the House that Jack Built in Raymond Village. She studied piano and dance and performed regularly, a local Shirley Temple. At 12, she drove to Portland in a car given to her by her father and got a driver’s license (in that order!) Marge attended high school at North Yarmouth Academy, graduating in 1947. She then went to Fisher Junior College in Boston and upon graduation, worked as a legal stenographer in Portland. She married NYA classmate Donald A. Richardson in 1951 and moved to Boston where he started his career as an engineer with Sylvania. They had four children, moving frequently as Don was transferred to locations across the country. Marge worked part time while raising the children, who enjoyed creative and entertaining adventures with their fun-loving mother. Summers, they enjoyed vacationing at their family camp on Crystal Lake in Gray.
After Don’s retirement, the couple travelled widely and spent winters at their home in New Port Richey, Florida and summers in Maine. Marge enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, baking and making beautiful quilts and knitted items for family members and friends. Since 2016, Marge and Don have resided at Huntington Common in Kennebunk, ME.

Marge’s family is grateful to Dr. Katherine Hanify and her associates and the staff of Huntington Common for their loving, compassionate care, and the staff of Beacon Hospice who have coordinated seamlessly with the Huntington Common staff to provide comfort and care in her final weeks and hours.
Marjorie is survived by her husband Donald of Kennebunk; daughter Debra Richardson Smith and her husband Douglas Smith of New Gloucester, their son Jordan Smith and his wife Jill and their daughter Alice of Pownal, ME., daughter Hilary and her husband David Stephenson and their children Layla and Isaac of Durham, ME.; daughter Sandra Richardson of Old Orchard Beach, ME., her son Wesley Burhoe and his wife Amy and their children Jack and Eli of Sugar Hill, NH., and her daughter Tamlyn Burhoe of Philadelphia, PA; daughter Laura Richardson and her husband David Robison of Denver, CO., their son Ryan Pogonyi and his wife Meredith and their children Avery, Henry and Noah of Denver, CO., daughter Christina and her husband Paul Tuoni and their daughters Isabella and Caroline of Wilmington, DE., and daughter Katherine and her husband Drew O’Malley and their daughter Reagan of Oahu, HI.; and son Donald Richardson, Jr. and his wife Susan of Nashua, NH and children, Kyle Richardson and his wife Maryna Kavalenka and their son Leon of Karlsrue, Germany, and Benjamin of Nashua, NH.
