Obituary for Dorothy Pauline "Dot" Gilblair (Martin)

Dorothy “Dot” Pauline Gilblair, 77, of Lyman, died Monday morning, October 1, 2018 at her residence with loving family at her side. She was born in Saco on July 23, 1941, a daughter of Willie and Alda (Garneau) Martin. She grew up in Saco, attended Thornton Academy, and Armand’s Beauty Academy.
Dot was a licensed hairdresser for many years, worked as a clerk for Hannaford and, in earlier years, worked in local shoe production shops.
One night, while bowling with friends, she met her future husband, Albert Gilblair. Married on September 9, 1961, they recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Dot could walk into a room full of strangers and come out knowing everybody. She had a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh. Knitting, crochet, and crafts were her hobbies, and she enjoyed traveling to Disney World with family. Dot and Al spent their winters in Davenport, FL.
In addition to her parents, Dot is predeceased by a brother, Nelson Martin; brother-in-law Stephen Gilblair; sister-in-law Pauline Martin.
Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Albert Gilblair of Lyman; her son, Dennis Gilblair and wife Katy of Buxton; her daughter, Denise Dube and husband Peter of Poinciana, FL; a brother, Raymond Martin of SC; her sister, Theresa Gilblair of Waterboro; six grandchildren, Sarah, Laciann, and Luke Gilblair; Tyler and Brandon Bisson, Erin Beaver and husband Alex and two great grandchildren, Lydia and Ethan Beaver.
Visiting hours will be on Monday, October 8, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Parish/St. Philip Church, 404 Goodwin Mills Road, Lyman. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Biddeford.
