Obituary for Alfred John Laude Sr.

Kennebunk, Maine -
Alfred J. Laude, Sr. of Kennebunk, ME passed away at the age of 89 on November 30, 2018. He was born in 1929 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Al attended American International College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He also earned a Master’s in Education from the University of Massachusetts.
Al truly exemplified the Greatest Generation. He was a paratrooper for the 11th Airborne, married the love of his life G. Eleanor Mesick in 1950 and dedicated his career and life’s work to public education. He taught at Classical and Agawam High Schools, after finishing his advanced degree he became a Vice Principal at his alma mater, Westfield High School. In 1971 he became Principal of Frontier Regional High School and completed his career as Superintendent of Schools. Al was a tremendous athlete and coach and was recently inducted into the AIC Hall of Fame. He had offers to play football for the Green Bay Packers and baseball for the then Boston Braves but declined those offers to raise his young family. He was a true Renaissance man, his hobbies included a world class garden, chair caning, basket-weaving and making jewelry. After retirement, he built his own home in Northfield, Massachusetts.
Al was married to Eleanor for 68 years, they had 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He considered his family to be his greatest joy in life.
Al is pre-deceased by his son Alfred J. Laude, Jr. who passed away on February 8, 2018 and his brother David of Modesto, CA. He is survived by his wife G. Eleanor Mesick, his daughter-in-law Joan Laude of Maine, son David (Peggy) of Maine, son Paul (Sandra) of Massachusetts, daughter Kathleen Kerr (Ken) of Texas, daughter Margo Emerson (Steve) of Maine. He is also survived by his grandchildren Christina Main (Craig), Michael Laude (Melissa Klepacki), Cara Shaw, Nicholas Laude (Nicole), Vincent Laude, Kate Laude, John Laude, Alex Kerr (Katie Hughes), Greg Kerr, David Kerr, Stephen Emerson, Jack Emerson and great grand-children. Grace, Avery and Clare Main and Lucas and Natalie Shaw. He is also survived by his sister Laura Brunton and her husband William of Maine.

A Memorial Mass to celebrate Al’s life will be held at 12 PM at the Holy Spirit Parish at St Martha’s Church 30 Portland Road Kennebunk, ME on Friday December 7, 2018. Pay your respects to the Family at 11:00 AM at the Church .

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alfred J. Laude, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund for Wells High School Athletes 11 Day Hill Road Wells, ME 04090
