Obituary for James Joseph O'Brien

Acton, ME

James Joseph O’Brien, 86, of Acton, formerly of Lynn, MA, died peacefully Sunday, December 2, 2018 at the Kennebunk Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

James was born December 10, 1931 in Lynn, MA, the son of William and Mary Anderson O’Brien, and attended St. Mary’s High School in Lynn.

Soon after graduating, he entered the US Army, and served as a paratrooper until 1951.

Returning to Lynn, he was a self- employed builder for many years. Jim took great pride in the many renovation projects he completed throughout New England and was grateful for his opportunity to pass his knowledge and craft to grandson, Jimmy Douglas.

James is predeceased by his daughter, Kelly O’Brien, and a sister Molly O’Brien, who died in 2017.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Virginia Grover of Acton, a son Col. James W. O’Brien, USAF, (ret.) and his wife Noriko & their 2 sons, James & Kenny , stepdaughters Cindy Benjamin of Barrington, NH and Susan McGrath of Salem, NH, two brothers William O’Brien of Danvers, and John O’Brien of The Villages, FL, grandchildren Kristen, Stacie & Shaun Grover, Michael Douglas & Kerri ( Douglas) Galante and several great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held in the spring in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn, MA.
