Obituary for Donald Russell Hall

Donald Russell Hall, 90, died peacefully Friday December 7, 2018 at his residence surrounded by family. He was born April 21, 1928 in North Berwick, the son of Ernest and Gladys (Goodwin) Hall. He was a lifelong resident of Berwick.
He established Donald R. Hall Roofing Inc in 1957, operating the business until passing it down to his son Barry in 1993. He assisted Barry on the roof part-time until fully retiring in his mid-80’s.

Back in the good ol’ days…fishing, cruising, traveling, and time at the lake with family occupied non-work hours. A life-long gardener, he never accomplished downsizing to just “a small garden this year” and often delivered the overabundance of vegetables to neighbors and friends. In his later years, the lucky winner of the vegetable lottery would be the proud recipient of a baseball bat size zucchini he swore wasn’t in the garden the previous day. Never afraid of a hard day’s work, he enjoyed the independence of cutting and splitting his own firewood, right up until failing health prevented it at the age of 89.

He is survived by his son Barry D. and his wife, Judy D. of Berwick; daughter Jill E. Perkins and her husband, Donald A. of Corinth; grandson Lt Col Russell J. and his wife, Lt Col Andrea M. living in Virginia; granddaughter Amy D. Cyr, of Berwick; four great-grandsons Oliver and Colton Hall and Jacob and Jonathan Cyr; as well as many life-long friends and neighbors.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Trudy in 2003 and sisters, Madeline Clement and Bernice Renfrew.

Graveside service will be in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to a charity of one’s choice or to Animal Welfare Society, P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094.

Donald’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Wentworth Homecare & Hospice for their help during this difficult time.
