Obituary for Gertrude Mae "Gertie" Spencer

North Berwick
Gertrude Mae Spencer (Gertie) 77 years, a resident of North Berwick, ME, formerly of Berwick, ME, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Varney Crossing Nursing Home, North Berwick, ME after brief illness.

Gertrude was born in Augusta, ME on June 20, 1941, a daughter of Wilber P. and Gertrude M. (Fisher) Spencer.

For many years, she loved going on her daily walks down Cranberry Meadow Road, fishing at the camp on Wadleigh Pond, watching movies and NCIS. She was a fan of music, especially Elvis. She had a love for all things Disney and was even able to travel to the Magic Kingdom with her brother Joe and sister-in-law Janet.

Her love for family and friends was apparent, she was always quick to smile and welcome new people into her life.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Carlton Spencer and her sister Amanda Goodrich.

She is survived by her four brothers, Wilbur Spencer of Waterboro, ME, Barry Spencer and his wife Claire of Berwick, ME, Raymond Spencer and his wife Marion of North Berwick, ME and Nathan Spencer and his wife Janet of Titusville, FL; a sister-in-law Lynn of Somersworth, NH as well as many nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 10 AM to 12 Noon Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Laing Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street Berwick follow by a funeral service at 12 PM with Pastor Norma Brettell officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in the Spring.

Should friends desire, a memorial donation may be made to the Varney Crossing Nursing Home, 47 Elm Street North Berwick, Maine 03906 in Gertrude’s memory.

A special thanks to the staff at Varney Crossing for the years of caring she received while she lived there.
