Obituary for Irene Rose Rousseau (Colwell)

The Villages and Ogunquit, ME

Irene Rose Rousseau, 89 years, of The Villages, died August 4, 2016 in Ogunquit, ME.

Irene was born April 28, 1927 in Wakefield, MA, a daughter of Michael and Emma (Cormier) Colwell. She graduated from Massachusetts College of Art in 1950 with a major in Fashion Design and moved to New York City where she taught pattern making at the Fashion Institute of Technology and made patterns for Vouge Butterick. On May 2, 1964 she married Lyle Glen Rousseau.

Irene loved art and enjoyed painting. She found beauty in nature and was very spiritual. She was a devoted member of the Christian Scientist Churches in Florida and Maine. She enjoyed eating at Panera Bread in The Villages, FL and at The Backyard in Ogunquit, ME.

In addition to her parents, Irene was predeceased by her brothers, Edward and William Colwell.

Irene is lovingly remembered by her husband, Lyle; her daughter, Gwen Rousseau and her husband, Nicholas Leininger, of Seattle, WA; her sister, Mary Ricucci, her brothers, Joseph Colwell and his wife, Becky, and Paul Colwell and his wife, Nancy; her sisters-in-law Marion and Norma Colwell and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating Irene’s life was held on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 3 pm at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, ME.
