Lawrence C. Soule Jr, 90, of Kennebunkport, died peacefully Monday, March 20, 2017 in Saco following a long illness.

Lawrence was born January 17, 1927 in Caldwell, NJ, the son of Lawrence C. and Jeanette Patterson Soule and was a graduate of Montclair Academy in Montclair, NJ. He furthered his education by attending Lehigh University, leaving the school to enlist in the US Navy during WW II. Upon his discharge, he returned to complete his course of study, earning his Bachelor’s degree. While at Lehigh, he was member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, making many lifelong friends.

He began his career on Wall Street, working for Chase Manhattan Bank. Moving to Andover MA, he began his long career in insurance, ultimately retiring from Alexander and Alexander Insurance Co. in Boston as a Sales Executive in the early 1990’s

Retiring to his beloved home in Kennebunkport, he became active in the community. He was an active member of South Congregational Church of both Andover MA and Kennebunkport, serving both churches in many capacities. As the past president of the Kennebunkport Historical Society he was instrumental in the creation of the Pasco Center. He was a trustee of PORT Opera and enjoyed many walk-on rolls in various operas. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Andover, MA. He enjoyed the camaraderie and rituals as a member of the Old Goats, a luncheon group of retired men, in Kennebunkport. Larry was ready and gracious host to many family and friends, especially Christmas and Fourth of July.

Larry obtained his pilots license at age 73, and delighted in taking family and friends out for rides in a Cessna from Sanford Airport. He was a competitive bridge player, was and a passionate and skilled sailor. He loved to take his white ‘57 T-Bird for a “spin” around town.

The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the loving care and attention he received from the staff at Seal Rock in Saco, where he spent his last months.

He is predeceased by his first wife Nancy Barnard Soule, children Christopher and Judy, and a brother John (Jack) Soule.

Survivors include his wife Beverley Soule of Kennebunkport, two sons Lawrence C Soule III and his wife Anna of Wilton, CT, and James A. Soule and his wife Valerie of Sherman Oaks, CA, two daughters Marcy Soule Rugg of Scarborough and Sarah Soule Cullinan and her husband Brian of Burlington, MA, a step daughter Kathleen Conneely and her husband Stephen Frawley of Cape Elizabeth, and seven grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held 4-7 PM Friday, March 24, 2017 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St. Kennebunk. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday at South Congregational Church, 1 North St. Kennebunkport, Please remember that the Dock Square bridge is out, so follow the detour signs through Kennebunk and Kennebunkport.
Interment will follow in Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport.
