Obituary for Gerald "Jerry" Dillon

Gerald "Jerry"  Dillon
WELLS ME, Gerald “Jerry” Dillon, 74, an active community member and resident of Wells died Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford following a period of failing health.

Jerry was born April 10, 1942 in Hartford, CT, the son of Elmer J and Emma N Dillon, grew up in East Hartford, and is a graduate of East Hartford High School, class of 1961.

As soon as he could, Jerry enlisted in the US Navy, serving aboard a destroyer based primarily in the Mediterranean Sea. Upon his discharge, he returned to East Hartford, attended the Connecticut Police Academy, and upon graduation, began his long career with the Simsbury Police Department in Simsbury, CT. He also enlisted in the Connecticut National Guard, serving for over 20 years. While living in Simsbury, he was a member of the Simsbury Fire Department, and was the department photographer. In 1989, he retired as a homicide detective, due to health issues.

Jerry moved to Wells, in 1992, where he became an active member of the Wells Fire Department as the department photographer, served as Director of Wells Emergency Management Agency, was a member of Congregational Church of Wells, serving as a deacon, a member of the Blue Knights, National Rifle Association, and the VFW.

Jerry is predeceased by his wife Christie Dillon, who died in 2007.

Survivors include his sons Michael Dillon of Simsbury, CT, and Jonathan Bradley of Westbrook, CT, a daughter Kathleen Thomas and her husband Jeff of Huntington, MA, grandchildren Bethany, Jennifer, Cynthia and Jessica Thomas, a brother Kenneth Dillon and his wife Penny of Bristol, CT, and a sister Joyce Tonkin of Manchester, CT, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11 AM Friday, May 5, 2017 at Congregational Church of Wells, Post Rd, Wells ME, with Reverend Charity Omartian officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be held in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.
