Obituary for Esther Elizabeth Laprel (Going)

Esther Elizabeth Laprel (Going)
Esther E. Laprel, journeyed peacefully to her eternal home, late evening on Friday, May 19, 2017 at South Ridge Living and Rehab in Biddeford. Born Esther Elizabeth Going to parents Louis H Going and Blanche E (Hutchins) Going, in Arundel, right across the street from the house she would later call her family home for more than 50 years. Esther graduated from Kennebunk High School, Class of 1939.
In 1954, she married the love of her life, Albert J. Laprel, who she met while working at the York Heel Corporation. Esther took a pause from work until her children were of school age, and then continued to work in several shoe manufacturing companies, including Eastern and Nike, until her retirement at 65 years of age.
Esther had a deep routed faith in God and attended what is now the Landing Chapel in Kennebunk, throughout her lifetime.
Although she was the ultimate “working mom”, her priority was always her family and home. She had a love of all animals, including numerous family pets, but particularly the family dogs Koko, Jet, Molly and Diamond. She truly enjoyed feeding and watching the wild birds that visited her feeders, especially cardinals and hummingbirds.
She was known for her sweet smile and twinkling blue eyes. Quite the tomboy as a young girl, she was lovingly called “Hecky” by her siblings. She loved being outside doing yard work, and “push mowed” her large lawn well into her eighties. Always up for an adventure, she visited Disney with her family for her 80th birthday and enjoyed ALL the rides, including the Tower of Terror”. She also insisted on enjoying a ride on the back of her son’s Harley. She was an avid reader, liked word search puzzles and visits with friends. Until her last few days, she continued to enjoy lobster rolls from Mike’s Pool St Market in Biddeford and her favorite “special” Italians made by Laura and girls at Cummings Market.
Esther was predeceased by her husband, Albert in 1979. By her brothers Raymond and wife Dorothy (Mitchell) Going of Arundel, Leslie and wife Caroline (Struckmeier) of Chico, CA and Robert of Kennebunk. Also by her sisters Evelyn and husband Leslie Johnson of Arundel, and Ruth and husband Arnold Smith of Kennebunk. By her grandson, Jason A Laprel in 2014, whom she adored and by her niece Katherine (Kay) Condon, who was like another sister to her.

Survived by her daughter, Alayna J Laprel and her husband Neal G Smith, and son, Mark A Laprel and his wife, Cheryl (Howard) Laprel all of Arundel. Also survived by her brother, Richard O Going of Saco and sister in law, Avis Going Taylor of Arundel, and a very special great-grandson, Gavin Laprel of South Carolina. Esther has 12 nieces and nephews, 21 great nieces and nephews, as well as great, great nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family, whom she cherished.
Esther’s family would like to thank the staff of Southridge for their loving care during the past 2 ½ years. While too numerous to mention by name, from the Nurses, CNA’s, housekeepers, kitchen and activities staff and administration, everyone always had a smile and true concern for Esther’s well being. Special thanks to the staff of Compassus of Scarborough, who for the past few months ensured that “mom” had a comfortable journey home to God. Especially, Nurse Kim, Rev. Cathy, Mia, Demi and Rolly.
Calling hours are: Thursday, May 25th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME with a Christian Memorial Service following at 6 pm, officiated by Rev Fred and Nancy Clark of the Landing Chapel. Private burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Kennebunk.
