Dateline – Wells, Maine

Thomas Francis Dennehy, 79, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at his home in Wells, ME surrounded by his loving family. Tom, the son of Joseph J. and Rita L. (McLaughlin) Dennehy, was born June13, 1938 in Somerville MA and grew up in Cambridge MA.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Alice M. (Gavin) Dennehy; and was the loving Dad to his six children: Donna Dennehy and wife Doreen, Lisa Dennehy Bonta, Karen Dennehy and wife Felicia, Thomas P. Dennehy and wife Sandra, Maureen Ruppel and husband Ron, and Kelly Zaulyczny and husband Andrew.

Tom is survived by his brother, James (Bobby) Dennehy and wife Karen, and brother-in-law to Jerry and Cathy Carbone. He was pre-deceased by his sister Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Tracy and husband Tom, his brother Joseph Dennehy; his brother-in-law James Gavin and wife Peggy, Donald Gavin, Fred Gavin, and Marion (Gavin) Diorio.

“Papa” cherished his grandchildren; Robert, Sean, Danielle, Megan, Ryan, Michael, Jason and Ashley; as well as his many nieces and nephews.

Tom served in the United States Air Force in Korea as a military police officer. After serving his country, he went on to become a heavy equipment operator and was a member of IUOE Local 4. He got the most joy out of spending time with his family and doing finish carpentry in his free time. He was an avid New England sports fan who ardently followed the Red Sox and Dustin Pedroia.

Visiting hours will be on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, ME.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Miller/Tracy Children’s Foundation (MTCF), PO Box 541002, Waltham, MA 02345; St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or York Hospital Hospice, in partnership with Merrimack Valley Hospice, Home Health Foundation, Attn: External Relations, 360 Merrimack Street, Building 9, Lawrence, MA 01843; or a charity of your choice.
