Obituary for Nancy Ann Dibble (Bennett)

Nancy Ann Dibble, 81, a resident of Kennebunk, died Thursday morning at her residence.

Nancy was born March 13, 1936 in Norwalk, CT, the daughter of Kenneth Mather and Evelyne E Greene Bennett, and is a graduate of Darien High School, class of 1954.

She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Edgar Dibble, as soon as he returned from his service during the Korean War, on June 25, 1954. Together, they made their residence in Redding, CT, where she raised her family and relished being a mom. While residing in Redding, she was an active member of the Redding Congregational Church.

Moving to Maine in 1971 to enjoy the Maine lifestyle, Nancy and Charles purchased the Schoenbrod Racing Shells, and together furthered the company’s worldwide reputation in the rowing world. Renaming the company Dirigo Racing Shells, she managed the office and kept the books while Charles oversaw the manufacturing process.

Family holidays were important to Nancy, she especially loved Thanksgiving and Christmas, when the entire family could get together and celebrate. She also enjoyed raising her Morgan horses, sewing and making crafts, traveling across the country and to Europe, and spending time and going on trips with her grandchildren.

Nancy is predeceased by her husband Charles E. Dibble, who died in 2014.

Survivors include her son James Dibble and his wife Marilyn of Standish, a daughter Tammy Fuller and her husband Peter of Kittery, a brother David Bennett of Franklin, TN, and three grandchildren, Sarah Murphy and her husband Joe of Kittery, Aimee Burrows and her husband Ben of Lunenburg, MA, and Denise Fuller and Fiancé’ Lindsey Schick of Roslindale, MA. and a great grandson Samwise Burrows.

Visiting hours will be held 2-4 PM Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St. Kennebunk, ME. A prayer service will be held at 4 PM officiated by Rev. Charles Whiston. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan, CT on Saturday.
